Through the support of the France-Merrick Foundation, the Community College of Baltimore County’s (CCBC) Nursing Program at the Dundalk Campus is enhancing its learning environment and strengthening clinical preparation for students. Grant funding has enabled the college to acquire advanced instructional technology, improving the quality of training at a time when the region faces a critical nursing shortage.
Upgrades to the program’s skills and simulation laboratory have had an immediate impact. High-fidelity simulation models now allow students to practice essential nursing skills in a realistic, risk-free setting. This hands-on approach helps build both competence and confidence before students enter direct patient care environments.
Simulation-based learning also strengthens clinical judgment and decision-making by exposing students to the pace and complexity of real healthcare scenarios. This level of immersion is essential for preparing future nurses to meet the demands of modern clinical practice.
In addition to improving training quality, these resources expand access to industry-standard tools for all students, regardless of financial background. By reducing barriers to hands-on learning, the program promotes more equitable outcomes while supporting a stronger pipeline of well-prepared nurses.
The impact of these enhancements extends beyond current students to future cohorts who will benefit from the improved learning environment. By preparing practice-ready graduates, CCBC is helping address the healthcare needs of the Baltimore region.
