2017 distinguished CCBC alumnus Dr. Richard Scheper

At the CCBC Student Awards Banquet on May 11th, CCBC Alumnus and President of Jovian Concepts, Dr. Richard Scheper was named the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.

“Dr. Scheper exemplifies the true meaning of a CCBC alumnus.” Said Ann-Marie Thornton, Director of Development and Alumni Relations. “He is a great community leader, educator and businessman and he has demonstrated his commitment to the college and community.”

A 1991 graduate of CCBC Essex, Dr. Scheper went on to further his education by earning his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Maryland College Park.

In 2014, Dr. Scheper reconnected with the CCBC Honors Program and Dr. Rae Rosenthal where he volunteered as a speaker at the Honors Alumni Luncheon as well as in the classroom where he shared his experiences as business owner. Later that year, Dr. Scheper established an endowed scholarship with the CCBC Foundation to help future generations of college students achieve their academic goals.

A true servant leader, Dr. Scheper’s commitment to public service brings credit to CCBC as he is a member of the American Red Cross of the Greater Chesapeake Board, a member of the CCBC Honors 30th Anniversary Celebration Committee, a CCBC Adjunct faculty and a newly elected member of the CCBC Foundation, Inc. board.
