Introduces students to the theoretical and basic concepts of caring for the surgical patient's medical, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Topics will include special populations, preoperative diagnostic and assessment procedures, death and dying, and positioning the surgical patient. Course offered once a year (fall or spring).

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Surgical Technology program.
