At 15, Ayesha Amin started taking classes at CCBC through the Early College Access Programs. At the time, she thought she wanted to become a nurse. However, being able to explore a variety of subjects led her to discover the field of sports management. She hasn't looked back since.
Starting at CCBC early gave me the opportunity to explore different paths without the pressure of making one choice right away. I could save money, access resources and take my time figuring out what truly fit me.
Her CCBC experience includes a mix of academics, athletics and leadership opportunities. She serves as president of the Psychology Club and is active in the Business, International, Green, Art, CSIT, Hiking and White Oak clubs. She also manages social media and photography for CCBC’s athletic teams.
Last summer, Ayesha completed a prestigious internship with Johns Hopkins through the Ambassador Program, a competitive national opportunity for which only ten students were selected.
“I was initially hesitant to apply because I go to a community college,” she admits. “But being accepted made me realize that my community college doesn’t define my abilities or limit my potential. CCBC has shown me so many opportunities and opened doors to places I never thought I’d be. We all have to take the stairs to reach our goals, not the elevator.”
She also proudly helps other students navigate those stairs. Ayesha works in CCBC’s Admissions Office as a student ambassador and work-study student, providing support and encouragement to students who are adjusting to college life while balancing their other responsibilities.
“A student I mentored came up to me near the end of the semester and said, ‘You’re the reason I didn’t give up,’” she recalls. “That’s when it really hit me... this isn’t just mentorship; it’s impact, it’s connection, it’s purpose.”
These types of opportunities encouraged her to stretch beyond her comfort zone, building her leadership skills through first-hand experience.
“I went from struggling with social anxiety to feeling completely confident speaking up, leading events and helping other students,” she says.
Looking ahead, Ayesha plans to transfer to a four-year university through Degrees to Succeed and eventually work in a high-performance athletic setting.
“CCBC gave me both the academic foundation and personal growth I need to thrive,” she says. “It has truly been an amazing experience.”
Ayesha is part of the Fresh Faces 2025-26 cohort.
