Nicole Stizza came to CCBC for one reason, its radiography program, one of the best and most affordable in Maryland. It was a practical choice that made sense to her and her parents. But in one of her classes, Nicole discovered that she had a passion for coding. Today, she is fully focused on information technology, building the skills and knowledge for a career she feels truly excited about.
“I’ve always enjoyed working with computers and coding since I was young, which is why I realized that pursuing a career in IT was a better fit for me,” she says.
My favorite part of my major so far has been the programming classes. I enjoy developing new programs and solving problems.
Affordability has been central to Nicole’s CCBC experience. Tuition-free options and scholarships have given her the freedom to explore new courses and find what excites her without the stress of high tuition.
“I think CCBC does its best to make tuition not a barrier, with scholarships and programs to help students,” she says. “I’d encourage anyone undecided to start as a general studies major. Even if a class isn’t your favorite, it won’t be a huge financial strain. My first programming class helped me find my career path, and I’m grateful I tried it out.”
CCBC’s flexibility and multiple campuses have also allowed Nicole to balance school, family and life outside the classroom.
“The variety and flexibility offered at CCBC have given me more time to spend with my family and pursue extracurricular activities,” she says. Online and hybrid courses let her learn at her own pace, while in-person classes offer hands-on experience and the opportunity to engage with faculty and peers.
Looking ahead, Nicole plans to transfer to Towson University to earn a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems with a focus on data analytics, aiming to ultimately work as a data or systems analyst. CCBC has prepared her well, offering her transferable courses and a strong foundation in IT.
For Nicole, CCBC will always be the place where she was able to explore and discover a career that feels like a true fit.
