Theatre major Daisy is able to balance performing, work and her studies through the flexibility at CCBC.

Daisy Mears is adept at playing many different roles — actress, receptionist, lifeguard, party princess — all while majoring in theatre at CCBC. With multiple part-time jobs and a full class schedule, she has found a way to make it all work.

The flexibility at CCBC has been tremendously beneficial to me. It lets me balance multiple part-time jobs and still keep up with school.

By choosing equal amounts of online and in-person classes, she can work and still focus on her craft, a passion she has nurtured since playing the titular role in "How the Turtle Got Its Shell” at age six.

“That magical feeling has hit me every single show since. And that's the reason why I keep coming back to it,” Daisy says. That excitement continues to drive her as a theatre major, where she hones her skills in acting classes and productions, including the CCBC Essex’s fall production of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime."

Through the mentors she’s met on campus, she’s been able to stay focused on her dreams.

“The faculty are all genuinely kind and caring. They’ve supported me academically and emotionally while I figure out my path,” she says. In particular, she credits faculty members Jen Ring and Julie Lewis for encouraging her along the way.

On campus, Daisy participates in Film Club, regularly meeting with peers to watch and discuss films. Being part of the club has allowed her to maintain a busy schedule and also be engaged in student life.

“I joined Film Club through a professor’s recommendation, and it’s been a great way to connect with friends and explore storytelling in film,” she says.

When Daisy is not working, studying or attending classes, she performs in community theater, taking her acting skills from the classroom to the stage. Her ultimate goal is to graduate and then perform on Broadway or at Walt Disney World.

“If you want to get into theater, attending CCBC is a good idea,” she says. “It's cost effective and the program teaches you everything you need to know.”

At CCBC, Daisy has found the flexibility to balance work and study, the mentorship to grow her craft and experiences to feed her passion.

Daisy is part of the Fresh Faces 2025-26 cohort.
