CCBC in three words: safe, beneficial and fun.
Robbie Smith, who graduated from South Cobb High School in Georgia, decided to come to CCBC because of baseball. Smith has played on both the CCBC Dundalk Lions Baseball team and the Essex Knights team, which is a National Junior College Athletic Association D2 Baseball program and competes in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference. His passion for the sport is one of the things that drives him as a student-athlete.

Smith spends a lot of his time at the athletics facilities, practicing his swing with the pitching machines and staying on top of his fitness game at the newly renovated CCBC Essex Wellness and Athletics Center.
When he’s not on the field, Smith is working towards his associate degree in General Studies. He also has an interest in Criminal Justice. CCBC’s flexible and convenient class schedules help him manage his academic and athletics schedule. He is happy with the quality of the education he is receiving and has learned a lot while at CCBC. And he says, “The faculty really care about the students.”
Smith is also a Fresh Faces ambassador for CCBC. He likes being a representative for the school, he said, “so people who don’t know about CCBC can see how great it is here.” A COVID-related scholarship has helped him pay for college. “The tuition was very affordable for me and my family.” Smith recommends that anyone considering attending a community college give it a chance. “You’ll get a good education and save money.” He is also impressed with the resources on campus, like the food pantry for students who struggle to get food.
When Smith graduates from CCBC, he plans to go to a four-year college that is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) to continue his status as a student-athlete. He will choose a school with a good baseball program just like CCBC!
